I bought a little old cottage in Goudhurst which had been extensively ‘modernised’. What I wanted to do was sensitively renovate it, such that the modern materials would be removed and more traditional materials put in its place.
I found it very difficult to find people who respected this type of renovation and ended up with some grave disappointments, particularly with plasterwork and wood working. I called Mike Sandy’s at Deacon and Sandys, who was so helpful that I immediately asked them to make two doors for the downstairs.
When they came in to do the work, they brought a passion and consideration which I’d not experienced before. They not only put the doors in but helped me to discover all the hidden oak, cleaned it for me, showed me how to care for it, and re-jigged work to accommodate the discoveries so everything would fit.
Since then, I will only let Deacon and Sandy’s into my home.
They have repaired and built my kitchen to our joint design, including a pot rack with a carved Tudor rose, they have built the most beautiful oak staircase (also with a Tudor Rose carved into the newel post), they have put more doors in, both upstairs and downstairs, stunning oak floors in two rooms, etc. and have figured out solutions to all sorts of problems encountered along the way including fixing a landing floor that I scratched!
They are the most wonderful and talented people and I will welcome them into my home – hopefully, for many years to come.

"We wanted something quality, special and unique....a 4" thick 16th Century solid oak door for a fortified farmhouse in the wilds of Northumberland. It was a leap of faith that made us fly to the South of England.
We were not dissapointed....the quality, care and listening to our brief was all there; we immediately placed the order.
When the door arrived our expectations were exceeded...the detail, the quality and the finish were all in keeping with our property.
On the back of one door we placed a subsequent order for bookcases, skirtings, 7 other doors, beams and we also used the skilled polishers to tie in other parts of the house.
The result is outstanding and has gained praise and recognition from English Heritage and the National Park.
The icing on the cake was that it was a real pleasure to deal with EVERY member of staff from designers to craftsmen...they all oozed enthusiasm and committment.
In what has been an immensely challenging building project renovating an Ancient Scheduled Monument Deacon and Sandys scored 10 out of 10 in every aspect of their work."
Thank You
